How to Find & Hire a Reputable Mover
April 26, 2010

In tonight’s “Ask Amy” segment, we showed you how a Stafford couple ended up in the  middle of two moving companies battling over their business.

David & Claire Spires hired one company, but another showed up first on moving day, claiming to be working on behalf of the other company.

So what should you do to avoid the same runaround?

John Esparza of the Southwest Movers Association says you should check out a mover, even before you ask them for a quote. Who cares if they give a deeply discounted price if it turns out they aren’t registered with the state, they don’t have liability insurance or they have a slew of complaints?

Here is a checklist of things you should research before you hire any mover:

Special thanks to Westar Moving & Storage, a member of the Southwest Movers Association, for helping us out with this story. They let us follow one of their very professional and courteous crews to get some video of a move.

Citgo Raises more than $400,000 for MDA
April 26, 2010

You may only think about the Muscular Dystrophy Association once a year when you see the Jerry Lewis Telethon; but there are hundreds of people who spend the whole year giving to the organization that does so much for kids with muscular dystrophy.

Last night, I got to spend a couple of hours with some very generous employees and partners of Citgo at the 24th Annual Citgo/ MDA Corporate Golf Challenge Tee-Off Dinner.

It was my third year to emcee the event at Hotel ZaZa. This year, everyone who made a donation to help send a kid to MDA Summer Camp got leied with these light-up “leis of hope.”

Since 1986 Citgo Petroleum Corporation has raised more than $120 million dollars for MDA. This year, Citgo surpassed its  goal of raising $400,000.

Don’t miss the MDA Telethon on Local 2 on Labor Day.

Is there a Link Between Fake Purses & Terrorism?
April 22, 2010

I’ve heard this on several occasions… the claim that money from the sale of counterfeit goods goes to terrorist groups. We couldn’t fit this in our story tonight, but I asked the President of the International Anticounterfeiting Coalition Bob Barchiesi about the link. You can hear his response below:

Most Ridiculous Street Sign in my Neighborhood
April 19, 2010

The first time I passed this sign, I thought “I should take a picture of that.”

The second time, I actually did. I have an email in to the City to ask what the heck happened. Was it a spelling error they just didn’t feel like correcting?
